Program not starting and cycle indicator light flashing on dishwasher

Last updated 08/05/2024 10:24

  • Cycle indicator light is flashing on the dishwasher
  • Program not starting in dishwasher

Applies to

  • Built-in dishwasher
  • Freestanding dishwasher

Before starting the appliance always check if:

  • The filters are clean and correctly installed.
  • The cap of the salt container is tight.
  • The spray arms are not clogged and can move freely.
  • There is enough salt and rinse aid (unless you use multi-tablets).
  • The arrangement of the items in the baskets is correct.
  • The programme is suitable for the type of load and the degree of soil.
  • The correct quantity of detergent is used.

If the dishwasher LED is flashing and the programme is still not starting:

1. Make sure that the appliance door is fully closed. An audible click should be heard.

2. If the delay start is set, cancel the setting or wait for the end of the countdown.

Press and hold the RESET / CANCEL button(s) (normally highlighted on the panel) which should abort the cycle and drain the appliance.

Please refer to the article: Dishwasher is stuck mid-cycle and won't allow me to select a different programme

3. The appliance recharges the resin inside the water softener. The duration of the procedure is approximately 5 minutes. The water softener removes minerals from the water supply, which would have a negative effect on the washing results and the appliance.

If the problem persists, please contact an Authorised Service Centre.

Tips for saving energy at home when using your dishwasher

With energy prices soaring, it’s never been a better time to rethink how you use the appliances in your home to save energy and money. Besides helping your household budget, it will also benefit the planet, reducing CO2 emissions. Here are some helpful tips on how to reduce energy when using your dishwasher

  • Use the ECO program when dishwashing. It takes a bit longer, but the dishwasher doesn’t have to work as hard, which means it uses less energy. Compare it to if you run or walk 1km. Running is faster but you need to use a lot more energy. If you walk instead it takes longer, but you use much less energy. The same logic goes for the ECO program
  • If you have an hourly electricity rate, do the dishes when the price is at its lowest
  • If you have an old dishwasher, it will have a low energy class – you can save energy just by replacing it with a new one
